Whether you’re new to being a mama or have been for quite some time, there are things that are considered universal to the whole mama experience. In other words, there are some things that all mamas still end up going through regardless of where they are in their motherhood journey. One perfect example of this would be trying to manage your time.
Being a mama takes a lot of work, and that’s a fact. Some would even go so far as to say that it’s a balancing act. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mama or a working one, you’re bound to agree to this because it’s felt like that at some point. However, as mamas do, they make it work. But that isn’t to say that managing your time is easy. It’s far from it.
At edamama, we’re all about mamas. So, with that in mind, we’re here to help make your life as a mama as easy as possible. Of course, it’ll never be easy, but it can at least become more manageable. This article aims to do that. More specifically, we’ll try and help you figure out how you can manage your time better. So, if you’re looking for ways to make your busy day more bearable, read on!
Figure Out Your Priorities
One of the best ways to help manage your time would be to figure out what your priorities are. If anything, it’s the first thing you should do. That way, you can see what parts of your day or routine takes precedence and which ones aren’t so pressing.
A good way to figure out your priorities would be to list as many of them down. The list doesn’t have to be complete or extensive. You can always come back to it and adjust. However, once you’ve made your list, you can then take a look at it and start ranking each item by priority. Once you’ve got that all figured out, you’re one step closer to figuring out how to go about managing your time!
Divide and Conquer (Your Tasks)
While being a mama is tough work, it’s not something you have to go through alone. You have your partner and your children to help you through it. With that in mind, another great way to help manage your time better would be to divide the some of the things you need to get done amongst the people in your household.
So, whether it’s household chores or having to run errands like going to the grocery, find a way to delegate the work at home. If your kids are old enough to do some chores, it’s a good way to teach them how to be responsible at home and get less work on your plate. If your partner has some things they can do, giving them those tasks to do will further reduce the things you need to worry about. Running a family is a team effort, after all. So, it makes sense that doing this is an option!
Make A To-Do List
Aside from listing down your priorities, another list-related thing you can do would be to make a to-do list. A to-do list is useful for several reasons. For starters, it gives you a semblance of being organized. It gives you a sense of control and helps remind you that you have control over your day.
A to-do list is also useful in so far as it helps you keep track of what you need to do. Compared to going about your day without keeping track of things, having a to-do list helps you at least know what you’ve already done and what else you need to do. This saves you a lot of time trying to figure out what you still need to do, which is especially helpful if you’re forgetful.
Plan Ahead
In relation to listing things down, one more excellent thing to do to help you manage your time better would be to plan ahead. By planning things like your day or week ahead of time, you can at least figure out what you need to do. You can lay out all the things you need to do and figure out what goes where in terms of the tasks you have to complete.
Essentially, what you’re doing here is keeping a schedule. So, planning ahead already gives you an idea on what you need to do. Keeping track of the time that each task would take—or even just estimating it—can also help you stick to it. If you know doing something like the groceries or picking up the kids takes an hour or so, you’ll be more likely to stick to it. This will then help you get things done faster and free up more time for the rest of your day later on.
Managing time as a busy mama can sometimes feel like a balancing act. However, there are ways to make things more bearable. The tips listed above may seem like common sense or way too simple to even consider, but these little solutions can make all the difference. Something as simple as keeping a schedule or listing the things you need do to can help you have more control over your day. As a result, you’ll be able to make use of your time wisely and eventually free up your schedule. So, if you’ve been trying to figure out how to make time work for you, consider some of these tips listed in this article!
